You will find only legitimate background check companies. In other words you will not find a company on here that isn’t verifiable through a number of techniques we use. However, be aware that even the best companies will have disgruntled customers because of the nature of this business. That is…public records can be very haphazard and sometimes finding even a little information on an individual can be futile.

We are frequent users of online background check and people searches services and have a very good idea of the frustration you may be experiencing in your search. I’m guessing you have also seen the “special offers” and “guaranteed results” all over the place as well. The long and short is that you should take what you see with a block of salt.

When this website was started in 2002, before I came along, back in the Wild West days of the internet, there was very little accountability for any background check company and people were being fleeced to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars! Today there are websites like RipOff Report, and the BBB, but they only air complaints and sadly we have even managed to locate some negative publicity about these “consumer protection sites” as well.

So…we decided to make a directory of every available consumer and professional background check and screening service that was legitimate in order to show you what the options are. Pick through them and let us know if you know of a service that should be included but isn’t.
