Background Check Review Process

• We check the internet for complaints about each background check company. These complaints are read and cross referenced to check for a common pattern.
• There is a flip side to complaints. If a company doesn’t have any complaints at all, this also raises a red flag because it usually means they aren’t legitimate or are “fly-by-night.”
• Our staff runs test searches with each background check company we locate to obtain an idea of how consistent the results are. There is absolutely not a single company that will always have results.
• We contact the various companies to inquire about their customer care procedures and if possible we find out who to call in cases where you as the user might need extra assistance.
• We check the age of the company to ensure they aren’t here today and gone tomorrow. This is a serious issue, with many no-name companies in business for less than a year.
• We check on what types of searches the company offers and only recommend those that meet the minimum criteria. Generally if a company only offers an all-in-one product stay far away.
• We factor the popularity of the service together with the complaints, what types of searches they offer, and the ability to get a refund, and in turn use that ratio to determine if they are worth using
• A company used by millions of people will have complaints, and there is no getting around that. However, if they offer more extensive capabilities, a legitimate refund policy, and customer service, we encourage using them over a company that appears to be entirely flawless. In this line of work a company with a perfect track record is almost always a “fly-by-night” operation that will be out of business in a few months due to a deluge of customer complaints, and perhaps even an FTC lawsuit.
