A criminal background check is normally performed by employers who are qualifying a potential employee for an open position in their company. Employers who do background checks are typically looking for person to fill a position in their company that holds a position of trust or high security. A background check may entail a person’s credit history, criminal records, employment history as well as overall character assessment of the possible job candidate.
Many large companies and government entities use private companies to perform their background checks for them. Companies feel that the background history of an individual will show future work performance probabilities and reveal the likelihood of future problems. The applicant must be made aware of the checks being performed and if the results of the check are a reason for a non-hire the candidate must be shown a copy of the check containing the negative information. The Fair Reporting Act requires that consumer reports shall be shown to job candidates and it is agreed that all information will be destroyed and not held by the company.
Job positions that typically require background checks are: teachers and childcare workers, high-profile security positions, positions that handle high amounts of money, and government clearance. There are many companies that choose to check criminal records and background checks. Some of these companies are very large corporations, while some of them are small business employers hiring someone for a position of trust. There are many private companies that offer these services to business.
When looking for a quality company to perform a background check on potential job candidates you should do your research before assigning them to the job. Many websites offer free background checks for individuals and companies. There are few that will actually perform the check for free. Using these “free” services may result in incomplete or out of date information. When you perform your search on Google for these companies, try to avoid putting in “free” as part of your Google search keyword set. Google will show results for the free sites only. Be sure to put in keyword search sets that include only background checks or best companies to perform background checks. This will help eliminate the out of date services commonly offered by companies for free.
